Running Line Monitor PLC System

Running Line Monitor PLC System

December 15, 2016

The bespoke system comprised three of DLM’s Running Line Monitors along with a Siemens S7-1200 PLC which were installed to allow the client to accurately monitor the output of each RLM. The DLM Design team removed the standard RLM display and replaced with a Siemens PLC that was programmed to accept the tension, speed and distance inputs from three RLMs and combine the inputs into two RS232 outputs. The RS232 output was then connected directly to the Survey Suite.

The PLC had a custom web display page which enabled calibration of the RLMs and configuration of the RS232 output. The S7-1200 was connected to a Siemens key panel with customised tare buttons. these could easily be mounted in a suitable location on the vessel, as it only required an Ethernet cable for communication, thus allowing the user to tare the tension and distance on all three RLMs.

DLM’s Offshore survival trained Engineers were also on hand to install the system on the vessel to assist in the integration and provide valued support.
